Bulldogs Unveil 'Stripe Sanford' Initiative for Sooners Visit
Georgia announced that fans will participate in a 'Stripe Sanford' uniform display for the September 26 game against Oklahoma. The tradition follows a similar fan-driven effort last season against Ole Miss. The Bulldogs also plan to wear white uniforms, including white helmets, for their next game against Western Kentucky.
The striping concept asks fans in alternating sections of Sanford Stadium to wear either red or black, creating a visual checkerboard effect across the stands. Georgia's previous attempt against Ole Miss last October produced a raucous environment during a 43-35 victory, and the school has now formalized the approach for the Oklahoma matchup. The tradition traces back to 2007, when coach Mark Richt secretly ordered black jerseys from Nike without telling players, revealing them in the locker room after warmups in traditional red tops. The crowd erupted when the team emerged in black, and Georgia rode that energy to a fourth-quarter rout of Auburn.
The Bulldogs will also debut white helmets for the first time in the modern era during their September 20 game against Western Kentucky. The all-white uniform combination has been featured in recruiting photoshoots for years under Kirby Smart, though this marks its first actual game use.
This initiative could deepen fan engagement by giving supporters a participatory stake in game-day atmosphere, potentially strengthening home-field advantage for a marquee SEC matchup. The uniform spectacle may also influence recruiting, as visible traditions and striking visuals often resonate with prospective athletes.
