Penn State Unveils Interactive Exhibit Honoring Joe Paterno's Legacy

Penn State announced the opening of the Paterno Family Football Experience Room, an interactive exhibit inside Beaver Stadium's All-Sports Museum dedicated to the late coach's 46-year tenure. The move comes amid ongoing challenges in honoring Paterno, who was fired in 2011 following the Jerry Sandusky scandal and died in 2012. The exhibit aims to preserve the program's history while connecting its past to the future, according to athletic director Pat Kraft.

The exhibit space incorporates Paterno's original office desk, personal keepsakes, program trophies, and interactive stations covering landmark games and recorded interviews. A video message from current head coach Matt Campbell addresses the program's forward direction. The room sits within the All-Sports Museum, located inside Beaver Stadium.

This opening follows years of strained relations between the university and the Paterno family. The bronze statue outside the stadium was taken down in July 2012, months after Sandusky's arrest. Penn State has distributed over $100 million in settlements to more than two dozen abuse victims. The family resolved its legal claims against the school in 2021, and Jay Paterno now holds a seat on the board of trustees.
