Mexican Indie-Rock Keyboardist, Pregnant Wife, and Daughter Found Dead in Home
Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for the Latin indie-rock group Camilo Séptimo, was found dead along with his pregnant wife, three-year-old daughter, a nanny, and the family dog at their home near Mexico City. Two men have been arrested, one of whom allegedly worked with Meléndez and used that relationship to gain entry. A six-year-old boy was found alive at the scene.
The killings occurred in Atizapán de Zaragoza, a municipality on the outskirts of Mexico City, where authorities from the State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office documented that the family pet was also found bound. Three victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head, while a fourth was shot in the back. Meléndez's wife, Ana Paula, 35, was four months pregnant at the time of the attack.
Among those arrested is Diego Sebastián "N," who reportedly knew Meléndez professionally and allegedly exploited that trust to enter the residence, with Gerardo "N" also facing charges. A six-year-old boy survived the incident and was discovered alive at the scene. Camilo Séptimo, the band Meléndez helped define, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the tragedy.
This case may resonate beyond the music community, highlighting vulnerabilities that public figures face even within trusted professional circles. The alleged use of a workplace relationship to gain entry could raise concerns about security practices among touring musicians and their families.
