The production transported its cast to two distinct filming locations, with the pivotal summit sequence captured on New Zealand's Mount Aoraki rather than Everest itself. To achieve authentic reactions, the actors endured genuine high-altitude conditions, including real snow, camping, and climbing training, which lent physical credibility to their performances.

The film assembles a notable international cast, pairing Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay with Hiddleston as Edmund Hillary, while Dafoe portrays expedition leader Colonel John Hunt.
