Disney+ Developing 'Kane Chronicles' Series with Rick Riordan and Angela Robinson
Disney+ and 20th Television are developing a series based on Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles trilogy. Riordan and Angela Robinson are writing the script, with the project previously in development at Netflix before being scrapped in 2024. The series would join Percy Jackson on Disney+.
The project marks a significant shift for the Kane Chronicles, which spent roughly four years in development at Netflix as a potential film franchise before being shelved in 2024. Disney+ now positions the Egyptian mythology story alongside Percy Jackson and the Olympians, whose third season arrives in November, creating a shared universe of Riordan adaptations under one roof. The books, beginning with 2010's The Red Pyramid, center on siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, with crossover short stories already linking their world to Percy Jackson's.
Robinson brings extensive genre and character-driven experience to the adaptation, having written for The L Word and How to Get Away With Murder, directed episodes of Wednesday and True Blood, and helmed the 2017 feature Professor Marston & the Wonder Women. She joins Riordan and his wife Rebecca as executive producers, alongside The Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell.
This development could significantly expand Disney+'s fantasy programming for younger audiences, potentially creating a second anchor franchise alongside Percy Jackson that appeals to readers of Riordan's broader bibliography. The series may also benefit from existing fan crossover between the two book series, giving Disney+ a built-in audience.
