Pennsylvania’s health department says it supplied all required documentation, while HHS maintains the deaths remain unconfirmed. The state’s outbreak has reached 540 cases, with 119 added in the past week, and includes a newborn and a child among the deceased.
The deletion follows a public dispute between Kennedy and Governor Josh Shapiro, with Kennedy accusing the state of possibly “fabricating” the deaths. The CDC’s current public note now claims available information does not establish measles as a cause, contradicting its earlier acknowledgment that health departments make such determinations. This internal-versus-external discrepancy raises questions about how federal agencies reconcile state-reported data with political oversight.
