Nokia and BeeHealthy partner for network-based patient authentication in healthcare
Nokia has signed a commercial agreement with digital healthcare platform BeeHealthy to integrate Network as Code technology for patient authentication. This replaces SMS one-time passcodes with network-based verification in under a second, marking BeeHealthy as Nokia's first healthcare customer for Network as Code.
The agreement integrates Nokia's network APIs directly into BeeHealthy's consumer apps, enabling automatic verification via mobile operator infrastructure. This eliminates manual code entry, with authentication completing in under a second. Nokia's VP highlighted the model's potential for other regulated sectors like finance and mobility, while BeeHealthy's CEO emphasized improved user experience and trust for providers and insurers. The deployment also demonstrates a new revenue path for operators, selling network capabilities as embedded services.
This move could streamline patient access to telehealth, reducing friction for elderly or less tech-savvy users. However, it may raise concerns about reliance on specific operators and data privacy, as network-based verification ties identity to carrier records. Healthcare providers could see fewer support calls, but insurers might need to adapt to new authentication standards.
