First breeding population of disease-carrying mosquito detected in London

Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, capable of transmitting dengue, chikungunya, and Zika, have been found reproducing at residential sites in east London. This is the first time the species has been observed breeding in the UK, though health authorities stress the immediate risk to people remains very low. Officials have destroyed the larvae and will monitor the area to prevent further spread.
