Self-Organizing Smart Bricks Can Identify Their Collective Shape

Researchers simulated cubes with independent neural networks that communicate locally to determine the overall shape they form. After training, these 'smart bricks' could correctly identify whether they were part of a boat, chair, guitar, and other objects with high accuracy. The work aims to enable self-organizing machines that can self-heal and repair damage.
