xTool's New X1 Laser Combines Gantry and Galvo Technology in a Modular Design

xTool announced its X1 laser engraver, which features a modular design supporting CO2, diode, UV, fiber, and MOPA lasers. The machine is the company's first flying-galvo unit, combining a large gantry with a fast galvo head, and it can operate two heads simultaneously. The default configuration includes a 55W CO2 laser and a 20W diode for the galvo, with pricing to be revealed closer to the October launch.
The X1 was introduced at a maker gathering in Texas. Its architecture relies on a swappable backpack module to deliver different laser wavelengths to the galvo head, a significant upgrade over earlier all-in-one devices that only accommodated diode and infrared tools. The standard configuration includes a 55W CO2 laser alongside a 20W diode galvo, with cost details withheld until the October launch.
Alongside the laser, xTool previewed the SE1 embroidery machine, designed for novices. This single-color stitcher works with the company's design software and can be combined with the O1 Omni UV printer to colorize thread, presenting a more accessible and affordable alternative to complex multi-needle embroidery setups.
The X1's modular design could significantly lower the entry barrier for small workshops and hobbyists, enabling them to process diverse materials like metal and crystal without purchasing separate machines. The dual-head operation may also boost production efficiency for independent makers. Meanwhile, the SE1's pairing with UV printing could democratize colorful textile customization, potentially shifting some small-batch manufacturing from industrial facilities to home studios. However, the final pricing will ultimately dictate how broadly these capabilities are adopted.
