New Trusted Traveler App to Replace Global Entry Mobile App
The Global Entry mobile app will be discontinued on Sept. 15, with a new Trusted Traveler app taking its place. Existing members keep their status and login credentials, and the new app will also handle applications for Nexus and SENTRI. Travelers should download the new app to continue using mobile arrival features.
The old app ceases operation on September 15th, while the new Trusted Traveler app will serve as the single hub for managing not just Global Entry, but also applications and renewals for Nexus and SENTRI. Existing members will not need to reapply or change their login credentials.
The government is simultaneously testing a new facial recognition process at six major airports, including Boston, Dallas, and San Francisco. This system captures and verifies photos as travelers enter the customs hall, allowing them to bypass traditional kiosks entirely.
The consolidation of programs into one app could simplify the application process for Nexus and SENTRI, potentially encouraging broader enrollment. However, the shift to camera-based verification may raise privacy considerations for some travelers. The transition could also cause temporary confusion for those who miss the download deadline, potentially leading to longer waits at customs for those relying on the old app.
