Guangdong highlights tech innovations ahead of APEC summit
As Shenzhen prepares to host the APEC summit in November, Guangdong province showcased its technological achievements at a media forum, featuring products from BYD, DJI, Tencent, and others. Media representatives toured companies like BYD and Midea to see the latest innovations, including fast-charging electric vehicles and advanced drones. The province aims to leverage the summit to boost its global tech profile.
The media forum displayed a broad array of provincial tech offerings, including Tencent's artificial intelligence systems and smartphones from Honor and Vivo. Journalists also took part in multi-city factory tours, visiting major manufacturers such as Midea and Oppo across Guangdong.
During a visit to BYD's Shenzhen facility, a premium sedan demonstrated rapid charging, achieving a 700-kilometer range in roughly six minutes under extreme cold. A separate supercar model showcased its four-motor drivetrain by performing a stationary 360-degree spin.
This showcase could strengthen Guangdong's global reputation as an innovation hub, potentially attracting foreign partnerships and investment. It may also shape international perceptions of Chinese technological self-reliance, particularly in electric vehicles and consumer electronics. For local firms, the summit could serve as a springboard for expanding into Asia-Pacific markets, though heightened scrutiny of data and security practices may temper these gains.
