Hong Kong sends record 16 civil servants to UN posts under Beijing's push
Beijing has nominated a record 16 Hong Kong civil servants for United Nations Junior Professional Officer positions, surpassing previous cohorts. The 16 officers mark a substantial increase over earlier deployments, originating from 13 distinct government branches. This is the third time the city has participated in the UN Junior Professional Officer scheme, with prior cohorts numbering five and twelve.
Chief Executive John Lee pointed to the strong track record of past participants, noting that nearly half had their assignments extended by the UN. He connected this year's dispatch to the upcoming release of Hong Kong's first five-year plan, positioning it as a key element of the city's contribution to national diplomatic efforts.
