Carnival introduces a new rewards card that accelerates cruise loyalty status

Carnival has unveiled a new co-branded Mastercard that awards 50,000 bonus points after a modest spending requirement. Cardholders can earn Carnival Rewards points on everyday purchases and, uniquely, earn Status Qualifying Stars toward cruise loyalty status. The card also provides six-month special financing on Carnival bookings.
The new card provides a 50,000-point welcome bonus after a $1,000 spend within 90 days. It yields six points per dollar on Carnival voyages, two points at restaurants and supermarkets, and one point on all other transactions.
Uniquely, the card allows holders to accrue status-qualifying stars through routine purchases, a feature previously unseen in cruise loyalty programs. It also extends six-month special financing on Carnival bookings, effectively merging everyday spending with faster progression toward elite sailing perks.
This development could make premium cruise benefits more attainable for travelers who frequently use credit cards, potentially shifting spending habits toward Carnival. It may also prompt rival cruise lines to introduce similar status-earning mechanisms to remain competitive. For consumers, the card could simplify the path to loyalty tiers, though it might encourage higher spending to chase status.
