Ex-'America's Got Talent' Singer Arrested in Nephew's Drowning Death
DeShundre Vinson, a former contestant on America's Got Talent, has been charged with first-degree murder in the drowning death of his four-year-old nephew. He was babysitting the child and allegedly allowed him to go to the pool unsupervised. Vinson made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
Vinson, 22, faces one count of first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated child abuse. The four-year-old remained submerged for roughly nine minutes before a bystander pulled him out, but the child died five days later on Aug. 21. Surveillance footage showed the boy moving from the pool's edge into deeper water and struggling.
After the drowning, Vinson and an unnamed leaseholder left the apartment and were found at a different Chattanooga home two and a half weeks later, where bond was set at $750,000. He previously earned a standing ovation from judges Howie Mandel and Mel B for a CitiLimitz cover of "All My Life" before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
