Delta slashes five routes, reduces Las Vegas service for winter season
Delta Air Lines is ending nonstop service from New York City to three airports and from Las Vegas to two Southern California cities. The cuts take effect between early November and mid-December, with the airline citing lower travel demand to Las Vegas. Affected passengers will be contacted directly about the changes.
Delta will terminate three New York City routes, with LaGuardia-Tulsa ending on November 9th and JFK flights to Palm Springs and Milwaukee ending on December 19th. The airline is also dropping Las Vegas service to San Diego and Orange County on November 8th. Milwaukee travelers still retain four daily round-trip options between LaGuardia and their city.
The carrier's winter schedule from Las Vegas will see roughly 7% fewer departures than last year, aligning with a similar projected decline for the entire airport. To support the Consumer Electronics Show, Delta will briefly reinstate limited Las Vegas flights to both Southern California destinations in early January.
These schedule adjustments could inconvenience leisure travelers and business commuters who rely on direct connections, particularly those flying between New York and smaller Midwest or California markets. Reduced Las Vegas capacity may lead to higher fares on remaining routes during peak winter weekends. However, the airline's temporary January reinstatement suggests demand is not uniformly weak, and affected passengers may find alternative connections or rebooking options, though added travel time could become a burden for some.
