Actor John Malkovich has withdrawn from a scheduled Tel Aviv performance of 'The Music Critic' after a press release quoted him without his consent. He stated that the quotes were drafted by a PR firm and did not reflect his views, making the situation untenable.
The scheduled performance was set for April 13 at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium, with the piece written by Aleksey Igudesman. Malkovich learned of the unauthorized announcement only after it was published by The Jerusalem Post and subsequently picked up by THR, despite THR's earlier attempt to contact his representatives.
The Israeli publicity firm, hired by producer Alon Yurick, issued an apology for the incorrect attribution, and The Jerusalem Post appended an editor's note removing the fabricated quote. Malkovich's prior engagements in Israel include a 2008 film festival appearance and a 2013 stage performance.
