Netflix has given a straight-to-series order for a new adaptation of Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove, with Zoe Kazan and Jeb Stuart as co-showrunners. The duo recently completed the East of Eden limited series for Netflix. The novel was previously adapted into an Emmy-winning CBS miniseries in 1989.
The straight-to-series order follows Kazan and Stuart's recent wrap on the *East of Eden* limited series for the streamer. Teton Ridge Entertainment, which acquired the rights to McMurtry's four-book saga last year, intends to adapt the entire sequence, with this project leading the charge.
The 1985 novel was a massive bestseller and previously spawned an Emmy-winning 1989 CBS miniseries starring Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones. The upcoming drama will chronicle Gus McCrae and Woodrow Call's final cattle drive from the Rio Grande to Montana, with Kazan and Stuart executive producing alongside Diana Ossana and Curtis McMurtry.
