UK air travel disruption continues as cancellations mount after technical fault
More than 150 flights were cancelled on Wednesday, adding to the 1,300 scrapped the previous day, as Britain's air traffic control service works to recover from a system issue. Nearly all the latest cancellations were at Heathrow. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander is set to meet NATS boss Martin Rolfe.
Flight tracking data indicates 177 flights were cancelled on Wednesday, following roughly 1,300 cancellations the prior day. The vast majority of Wednesday's cancellations occurred at London's Heathrow airport.
The air traffic control provider, NATS, described the recovery process as highly complex, noting that the entire aviation network will need time to stabilize. In response, the UK's Transport Secretary is scheduled to meet with NATS's chief executive to discuss the ongoing situation.
