Apple's Foldable iPhone 'Duo' Expected to Start at $2,000 with A20 Pro Chip
Apple's upcoming foldable device is reportedly named the iPhone Duo, not 'Fold' or 'Ultra' as previously speculated. It will start at $2,000 for the 256GB model and approach $3,000 for a 2TB version, with specs including the A20 Pro chip, dual 48MP rear cameras, and a magnetic hinge. The device is expected to be announced today and go on sale in October.
The "Duo" moniker revives a name previously used by a Microsoft Surface device and a line of Apple notebooks from 1995. To achieve a $2,000 starting price, Apple reportedly accepted lower profit margins to stimulate demand, undercutting earlier analyst predictions of a $2,500 base cost.
The device features a landscape-oriented folding design, a magnetic hinge, and stylus support. It will ship in October, shortly after the iPhone 18, and comes in dark blue or white. Meanwhile, the iPhone 18 Pro models are set for a modest $100 price increase.
This pricing strategy may test consumer willingness to pay for a new form factor, potentially normalizing ultra-premium smartphone tiers. It could pressure competitors like Samsung to adjust their own foldable pricing or innovation.
