Thai school shooting leaves teacher dead, children evacuated safely
A gunman entered a kindergarten in Chonburi province and shot a teacher, who died. All 44 students and three other teachers were evacuated unharmed. Police believe the shooter is the victim's husband and have surrounded his residence.
The attack occurred around 11am on Wednesday at the Nongplalai Municipal Kindergarten, located roughly 150 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. In response, the provincial governor ordered an immediate school closure and arranged for mental health professionals to support the affected pupils and staff.
This tragedy follows a separate August incident where a 14-year-old student killed eight people and wounded over twenty others at his high school and home before taking his own life. That earlier event had already heightened national scrutiny over campus security and firearm access.
This incident could intensify public anxiety regarding school safety, particularly affecting parents, educators, and students who may feel increasingly vulnerable.
