Lyft integrates driverless Waymo taxis in Nashville
Lyft users in Nashville can now request rides from Waymo's autonomous vehicles through the app, with service limited to central districts. Waymo has been testing in the city since last year and received approval for driverless operation in February.
Nashville marks a unique milestone as the first city where Waymo's autonomous fleet is accessible through both the Lyft platform and Waymo's standalone app. The integration applies to several ride tiers, including Standard and Extra Comfort, though trips are currently restricted to specific central neighborhoods like East Nashville and Midtown.
Lyft passengers retain full control over vehicle choice, as they can permanently disable driverless matches or reject a specific autonomous ride. The service launched after a year of local testing, with regulatory approval for fully driverless operation arriving in February, and Lyft anticipates expanding the coverage zone in the coming weeks.
