Women's Hockey League Secures First Full-Season U.S. TV Deal

The Professional Women's Hockey League and Scripps Sports have agreed to a media rights deal for the 2026-27 season. The pact brings a weekly game to Ion network and adds playoff coverage. Scripps will also air two games per week on its FAST channel, with local partnerships in Detroit and Las Vegas.
The agreement marks a milestone for the PWHL, which launched in 2024, by guaranteeing weekly national broadcasts on Ion for the entire 2026-27 season. Beyond the Saturday night showcase, Ion will carry the Walter Cup Finals and an additional playoff round, while Scripps' free ad-supported streaming channel will offer two weekly matchups.
This expansion aligns with Scripps' broader investment in female athletics, as the network already airs WNBA and NWSL games and plans coverage of the upcoming Women's Team Golf League. Additionally, the deal establishes local broadcast partnerships in Detroit and Las Vegas, anticipating the league's growth to twelve teams.
The deal could significantly boost the PWHL's visibility among American audiences, potentially expanding its fan base and commercial appeal. By securing a consistent national platform, the league may attract new sponsors and viewers, which could lead to greater financial stability for players and teams. Local partnerships in expansion cities may also strengthen community ties and encourage grassroots participation in women's hockey, though the long-term impact will depend on viewership numbers and sustained interest.
