Vention launches Montreal facility to advance AI-driven robotic manipulation
Vention has opened a Physical AI Lab in Montreal dedicated to advancing robotic manipulation for manufacturing. Vention's new Montreal facility will utilize the operational data generated by its installed base of over 28,000 machines across 6,000 factories. This real-world information is intended to train AI models for complex, unstructured manufacturing tasks, moving beyond controlled laboratory settings.
The lab's research scope includes motion planning, vision foundation models, and reinforcement learning. Under the direction of Dr. Jimmy Li, who brings a decade of academic experience from McGill and prior work with NVIDIA, the initiative aims to integrate academic findings directly with live production feedback.
The opening of this lab could accelerate the adoption of adaptable automation in manufacturing, potentially reshaping labor demands. If Vention's approach successfully lowers the cost and reliability barriers of physical AI, smaller factories may gain access to advanced robotics previously reserved for large enterprises.
