Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area Partner on Low-Altitude Economy Standards
Hong Kong signed two memorandums of understanding with Greater Bay Area partners to harmonize standards and commercialize advanced aerial technology. Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong said the agreements combine the bay area's production and testing capabilities with Hong Kong's research and standards-setting strengths. The move aligns with national strategy for developing the low-altitude economy.
The agreements were signed during the annual Belt and Road Summit. They aim to merge the manufacturing and evaluation strengths of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau region with Hong Kong's expertise in research and establishing technical benchmarks.
A regulatory framework for piloting advanced aerial initiatives is currently being advanced by the local government. These efforts are designed to support the broader national objective of fostering low-altitude economic growth within metropolitan settings.
This collaboration could streamline certification processes for drone and air-taxi operators, potentially accelerating their entry into the commercial market.
