Artist Financing Platform Taps Former TuneCore Chief to Lead Global Expansion
Andreea Gleeson, who previously led TuneCore, has been appointed CEO of beatBread, a company that provides advances to independent musicians. She will focus on scaling the firm's AI-driven underwriting and extending its services beyond the U.S. beatBread has issued roughly $100 million in advances since its founding in 2020.
Gleeson steps into the role following the August 2025 passing of founding CEO Peter Sinclair, with Tracy Maddux having served as interim leader. Her prior tenure at TuneCore included guiding the distributor into fresh international territories and introducing an artist discovery initiative.
The platform has facilitated roughly 2,000 transactions totaling $100 million in advances. Gleeson will direct $124 million in recent capital toward expanding its AI-driven underwriting system abroad, while also building on a $100 million fund launched last year to bolster independent labels against major-label consolidation.
This leadership change could reshape how independent musicians access funding, potentially offering more alternatives to traditional label deals that require ownership stakes. The focus on AI-driven underwriting may speed up approval processes, but could also raise concerns about algorithmic bias in determining artist creditworthiness. As the platform expands globally, it may provide crucial capital to creators in underserved markets, though increased competition among financiers could ultimately benefit artists through more favorable terms.
