Sumerian Pictures Nabs U.S. Rights to Eivind Landsvik's Debut 'Low Expectations'
Sumerian Pictures has acquired North American rights to Norwegian writer-director Eivind Landsvik's feature debut 'Low Expectations,' which stars musician Marie Ulven (Girl in Red) and Anders Danielsen Lie. Landsvik previously directed shorts that premiered at Cannes and won a Norwegian Film Critics Award.
Sumerian Pictures secured the U.S. and Canadian distribution rights to the Norwegian filmmaker's first full-length movie. Landsvik's prior work includes two acclaimed shorts, one of which screened at Cannes and another that took home a Norwegian critics' prize.
The cast pairs musician Marie Ulven, widely known as Girl in Red, with actor Anders Danielsen Lie, who earned international acclaim for his performance in the drama 'The Worst Person in the World'.
The acquisition could expand the North American audience for European independent cinema, potentially introducing Norwegian storytelling to a wider demographic. It may also boost the crossover appeal of musician Marie Ulven, drawing her existing fanbase into film viewership. For the industry, this deal could signal sustained commercial interest in distinctive international debuts, possibly encouraging more distributors to acquire similar foreign-language or indie projects.
