Instagram expands profile customization with tagged post integration
Instagram now allows users to feature tagged photos on their main profile grid, in addition to the existing Tagged tab. Users can add tagged posts via DM notifications, the three-dot menu, or by pressing and holding in the Tagged tab. The added posts appear in reverse-chronological order but can be rearranged, and visibility depends on account privacy settings.
The integration allows users to curate specific tagged content onto their primary grid while retaining the separate Tagged tab for all mentions. Selection can occur through three distinct interfaces: direct message alerts, the post's menu, or a long-press action within the tag archive. Crucially, the public reach of these featured items remains contingent upon the privacy configurations of both the profile owner and the original poster.
This curation is reversible, as items can be removed from the grid without erasing the original post. While newly added items default to a newest-first sequence, users possess the flexibility to manually reorder them. This capability builds upon the broader profile rearrangement tool introduced earlier in the year, enabling users to strategically place older or newer tagged items to craft a desired visual layout.
This update could reshape how individuals and brands present their digital identities, shifting focus from self-published content to socially validated endorsements. Creators may leverage this to highlight collaborations more prominently, potentially increasing engagement and brand partnerships. Conversely, everyday users might face subtle pressure to curate a more polished, aesthetically consistent profile, which could influence self-presentation norms.
