Fenerbahçe coach Ismail Kartal submitted his resignation after being struck by a bottle thrown from the stands during a Europa League match against Roma. The incident occurred during Thursday's 1-1 European tie against Roma in Istanbul. A spectator threw a water bottle that struck the 65-year-old coach, who had only taken charge in June. Following the match, Kartal publicly declared his resignation during his press conference.
The Turkish club responded by identifying the supporter responsible and banning them from the stadium. However, club president Aziz Yildirim overruled the coach's decision, insisting that Kartal is merely at the start of his tenure and retains the board's full backing.
