New Weekly Chart to Spotlight UK Acts in Domestic Album Market
The Official Charts Company has introduced the Official Homegrown Albums Chart, a weekly ranking that tracks the top-selling albums from British artists over the previous 12 months. Eligibility follows BRIT Awards criteria, requiring artists to be born in the UK, hold a UK passport, or have been permanent residents for over five years, with groups needing at least half their members to qualify. The chart debuts on the OCC website and will be featured on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart First Look Show, supported by industry bodies including AIM and the MMF.
The new ranking will debut on the Official Charts Company website on September 11th, with radio highlights following two days later on BBC Radio 1's First Look show. It measures album consumption over a rolling 12-month window, applying the same eligibility rules used for the BRIT Awards to determine which acts qualify as British.
Industry bodies like the Association of Independent Music and the Music Managers Forum have backed the initiative, which follows the recent introduction of a dedicated UK R&B chart. The launch comes amid strong domestic sales for artists such as RAYE and Sam Fender, aiming to give homegrown talent a distinct platform.
