Iranian strikes inflict severe damage on US naval base in Bahrain
The acting US Navy secretary admitted that Iran's attacks caused heavy damage to the US Naval Support Activity base in Bahrain. Iranian strikes also hit the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, damaging multiple aircraft. The admissions come amid ongoing US-Israel war with Iran.
The Juffair naval facility, previously serving as the Navy's central logistics hub in the region, faced repeated missile strikes from February through June. Independent analysis of satellite images and interviews with personnel confirmed that the command center and roughly a dozen additional structures were severely impacted, leading the Navy to form a task force to assess whether to rebuild or abandon the site.
Operational consequences have extended beyond the base itself. The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln lacked a nearby port for crew rest, contributing to a reported mental health crisis among sailors, including attempted overboard incidents, before the vessel eventually docked in Thailand.
The acknowledged destruction of a key US command hub could significantly weaken Washington's naval deterrent posture in the Gulf, potentially emboldening adversaries. Local communities in Bahrain and Jordan may face shifting economic and security dynamics if basing agreements are renegotiated.
