Thailand Launches Campaign to Convert Film Locations into Tourist Attractions

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has introduced 'Amazing Locations: From Scene to Scenic' to capitalize on the country's growing popularity as a filming destination. The campaign targets the 'set-jetting' trend, where travelers visit places seen on screen. Productions like 'The White Lotus' have already boosted interest in Thai locations.
The tourism authority's new promotional drive seeks to transform the nation's growing appeal as a production hub into sustained visitor numbers. It focuses on audiences who arrange excursions around locations featured in movies and series.
Deputy governor Nithee Seeprae explained that the strategy emerged from observing the swift expansion of this viewing-driven travel pattern. Popular titles, including "The White Lotus" and "The Challenge" season 42, have already heightened global curiosity about specific Thai filming spots.
This campaign could significantly benefit local communities near filming sites by boosting hospitality and service industries. However, it may also lead to overtourism pressures, potentially straining infrastructure and altering the authentic character of these locations. While the initiative could diversify the country's tourism portfolio, its long-term success will depend on managing visitor flow to preserve the very scenery that attracts productions and travelers alike.
