Mac DeMarco's Intimate Tour Recordings Finally Reach Streaming
Mac DeMarco has released four albums that were originally sold as tour-only CD-Rs, now available on streaming platforms. The recordings are described as slow, seasick, and half-formed, seemingly aimed at dedicated fans. One album includes a drum solo that takes up a third of its runtime, showcasing an experimental side.
The four releases span 24 to 41 minutes each, with track titles largely serving as timestamps from their recording sessions. Seven Off the Two, captured around Thanksgiving 2025, features cover art of a large buck, and its opening drum solo consumes roughly a third of the album's brief runtime. The collection was issued through Mac's Record Label in 2026.
These recordings continue the slower, more fatigued approach DeMarco has favored since 2019's Here Comes The Cowboy. They contrast sharply with the lite funk beat he dismissed as "garbage" in a video that drew nearly 5 million viewers—a beat that later surfaced on his sprawling 199-track One Wayne G collection from 2023.
These releases may deepen the divide between casual listeners and devoted fans, as the recordings demand patience and offer little immediate gratification. For DeMarco's audience, the streaming availability could reframe how archival material is consumed, potentially normalizing the release of raw, unfinished work as a legitimate artistic statement rather than a commercial product. The music industry may take note of whether such low-fi, experimental releases find an audience beyond the die-hard base.
