Khosla Ventures to establish first New York office with executive briefing center

Khosla Ventures is opening its first office outside Sand Hill Road in New York City on 14th Street, expected this fall. The office will include an executive briefing center to connect portfolio companies with Fortune 500 clients. Partner Keith Rabois confirmed the move at a TechCrunch event, noting it's a big step for the firm.
The New York outpost marks a notable departure for Khosla, which has historically operated solely from its Menlo Park base. Rabois's personal relocation to the East Coast, driven by family circumstances, appears to have influenced this strategic shift. The executive briefing center concept is designed to create regular interaction between portfolio startups and large corporate clients, with sessions scheduled four days weekly.
Rabois's comments on talent acquisition reveal regional differences. He noted that entry-level hiring in New York is strong, citing Ramp's success with recent graduates. However, he acknowledged difficulties in recruiting senior technical and executive talent, partly due to commuting challenges for those living in suburban areas. Ramp has addressed this by promoting from within rather than hiring experienced executives externally.
This expansion could signal a broader trend of Silicon Valley firms extending eastward, potentially reshaping where venture capital activity concentrates. New York's startup ecosystem may benefit from more direct access to funding and corporate partnerships. However, the talent challenges Rabois described could persist, affecting how companies grow and hire in the region. The executive briefing center model may also influence how other firms approach connecting startups with large enterprises, potentially accelerating commercial adoption of emerging technologies.
