Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey declared Sept. 9 as Los Tigres del Norte Day, ahead of the band headlining the Hispanic Heritage Awards outside D.C. for the first time. Colombian artist Feid will screen his short film 'El Green Print' in 42 Regal theaters across 41 U.S. cities on Sept. 13, with tickets at $10. The film features appearances by Tony Hawk and others, and includes the premiere of his new music video.
The Minneapolis proclamation preceded the band's historic performance at the Hispanic Heritage Awards, which moved from its usual D.C. venue to Orchestra Hall. The ceremony also recognized Mon Laferte, Ximena Sariñana, Oscar D'León, Eladio Carrión, and Congressman Joaquín Castro, highlighting contributions across music and public service.
Feid's theatrical event offers a $10 ticket that doubles as a concession credit, and the film traverses multiple cities including Tokyo and Miami. It features appearances from skateboarder Tony Hawk and racing driver Keiichi Tsuchiya. Separately, the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation distributed over $1.7 million in scholarships, with a violinist receiving a four-year award to study at Berklee.
These events may broaden mainstream exposure for Latin music, as a major band receives civic recognition and a reggaeton star's film enters multiplexes.
