Planetcast Acquires BroadStream to Launch New Products Division
Planetcast has acquired BroadStream Solutions, integrating playout, captioning, and subtitling products into its global media services. The move establishes Planetcast's new Products Division, combining BroadStream's broadcast workflow solutions with Planetcast's distribution infrastructure.
The transaction, announced from Amsterdam, positions BroadStream's OASYS platform as the anchor of a newly formed operational unit within Planetcast. That division will concentrate on integrated playout, time-delay systems, and accessibility functions including captioning and subtitling. Planetcast's existing distribution network is expected to support these software offerings across international markets.
David Bowes, previously BroadStream's chief executive, will direct the new division's product strategy and commercial rollout. The arrangement aims to preserve continuity for existing BroadStream clients while broadening the available feature set. Planetcast's leadership frames the deal as extending service coverage across the content lifecycle, spanning preparation, localization, streaming, and delivery.
This acquisition could streamline how broadcasters and content owners manage linear and streaming operations, particularly around accessibility features such as captioning and subtitling. By pairing software products with global distribution infrastructure, Planetcast may offer more integrated, cost-effective workflows for smaller operators that previously pieced together separate tools. That could improve content accessibility for viewers with hearing impairments. However, the outcome depends on how smoothly existing BroadStream customers adapt to new ownership and whether product development continues at its prior pace.
