Thermal Grizzly's WireView adapter suffers melted 8-pin connectors on RX 7900 XTX
A Radeon RX 7900 XTX owner reported that the 8-pin connectors on a Thermal Grizzly WireView monitoring adapter overheated and melted while in use. The user experienced system freezes and black screens before discovering the damage, with the connectors fully seated. Thermal Grizzly is investigating the incident and has asked the user to send the adapter for analysis.
The WireView adapter functions as an inline power monitoring device, inserting additional connection points between the PSU cables and the GPU. This extra set of contacts can introduce higher electrical resistance, which may generate heat under heavy loads. The affected user reported system freezes and black screens before noticing the melted connectors, which were fully seated at the time of failure.
Thermal Grizzly has reached out to the user and requested the damaged unit for analysis. The company previously cited improper seating, backplate interference, or misaligned contacts as potential causes of connector damage. Separately, modders recently demonstrated that properly soldered 8-pin connectors can handle up to 900W on a modified RTX 5090, highlighting the importance of correct implementation.
