Superhuman acquires Fathom to integrate meeting notes into its AI workflow
Superhuman has acquired Fathom, a Y Combinator-backed meeting notetaker with more than 400,000 monthly active users. The deal brings Fathom's technology into Superhuman's AI-driven productivity platform, which had been testing its own notetaker. Superhuman's CEO said the acquisition will enable real-time meeting context features.
Fathom, founded in 2020, has raised over $30 million and was valued at $94 million last year. Its backers include Zoom's venture arm and prominent tech founders like Reddit's CEO and former Twitch CEO. The free tier drove adoption, yielding more than 400,000 monthly active users and over a million recorded meetings.
Superhuman's existing suite includes email, docs, calendar, and a database, plus a new AI agent builder. The acquisition gives it a mature notetaker to slot into this stack, enabling workflows like drafting emails or scheduling follow-ups from meeting data. The move also responds to rivals like Granola and Read AI, which have raised significant funding.
The integration of meeting notetaking into a broader AI productivity suite could significantly streamline workflows for professionals, reducing manual follow-up tasks. However, it may also amplify concerns about workplace surveillance and data privacy, as AI processes sensitive conversations. Users could become overly dependent on automated summaries, potentially diminishing their own recall and critical listening. As consolidation continues, smaller standalone notetakers may struggle, potentially limiting consumer choice in this rapidly evolving market.
