Finecut Expands Asian Reach for K-Pop Idol Films and NCT Movie

South Korean sales firm Finecut closed new distribution deals for two K-pop idol-fronted films and added territories for a third. 'After-School Exorcism Club: Girls' Night' sold to Indonesia, Singapore, and Taiwan, while 'Wi-Fi Love in the Palace' was picked up by Japan, Indonesia, and Taiwan. 'Wind Up: The Movie' also gained additional Asian markets.
The three titles represent a growing trend of K-pop idols crossing into theatrical film, leveraging their fan bases for box-office pull. “After-School Exorcism Club: Girls’ Night” and “Wi-Fi Love in the Palace” both premiered or opened in Asia before expanding, with the former having screened at Bucheon and hitting Singapore cinemas in August. Finecut’s dealmaking spans streaming and traditional theatrical distributors, from Catchplay+ to Shaw Organisation, indicating hybrid release strategies. “Wind Up: The Movie,” featuring NCT, continues to build on earlier sales, now adding further Asian territories to its slate.
These distribution wins could strengthen the commercial viability of idol-driven cinema across Asia, potentially encouraging more entertainment companies to greenlight similar projects. Fans in newly added markets may gain easier access to these films, boosting cross-border cultural exchange. However, reliance on existing fandoms might limit broader audience appeal, and the long-term impact on the film industry’s diversity remains uncertain.
