Women's Health Startup Evvy Secures $40M to Expand Microbiome Data Platform

Evvy, a women's health company, has raised $40 million in Series B funding led by Catalio Capital Management. The startup offers an at-home test that analyzes vaginal microbes and has served over 100,000 patients. It plans to use the data to build a large dataset for precision medicine and AI-driven insights.
Evvy's founding team of three launched the service in 2021, and its lab holds both CLIA and CLEP certifications. The company reports serving over 100,000 patients and collaborating with 3,000 practitioners. Its research has produced 15 peer-reviewed publications, identified novel bacterial vaginosis subtypes, and catalogued hundreds of previously unknown vaginal microbiome genomes.
Beyond vaginal health, Evvy is now investigating links between the microbiome and fertility issues, including IVF success and recurrent pregnancy loss, having initiated a prospective study in IVF clinics last year. It faces competition from firms like JunoBio, TinyHealth, and Daye. The company's ultimate ambition is to develop an at-home, non-invasive test that functions like a modern Pap smear, offering regular insights into a range of conditions from infections to HPV progression.
This funding may accelerate the shift toward data-driven women's healthcare, potentially filling a long-standing gap in biological datasets. By linking microbiome data to fertility and other outcomes, Evvy could reduce the frequency of "unexplained" diagnoses, giving patients more actionable answers. However, the reliance on large-scale personal health data could raise questions about privacy and equitable access, though the company's at-home model may broaden reach for many women.
