DoorDash Invests $425 Million in Wonder's Food Delivery Ambitions

DoorDash is investing $125 million in Wonder and acquiring its Grubhub Campus Dining business for $300 million, totaling $425 million in deals. Wonder, founded by Marc Lore, operates ghost kitchen food halls and has expanded to 157 locations. The partnership aims to support Wonder's vision of an autonomous food system.
Wonder's rapid expansion stems from a string of acquisitions, including last year's $650 million purchase of Grubhub, plus brands like Blue Apron and several New York restaurant chains. The ghost kitchen model consolidates multiple restaurant concepts under one roof, and Wonder's footprint has quadrupled since early 2025 to 157 locations.
DoorDash's purchase brings Grubhub Campus Dining, already active at 450 colleges, into its platform with plans to extend into stadiums and hotels. Wonder's founder previously built companies acquired by Amazon and Walmart, and the company targets Texas expansion in early 2027.
This deal could accelerate automation across food preparation and delivery, potentially reshaping how meals are produced and distributed at scale. College students may see more streamlined campus dining options, while food service workers could face uncertainty as autonomous systems develop. Consumers may benefit from greater convenience and choice, but consolidation among delivery platforms could reduce competition and weaken small restaurants' negotiating power.
