Blanchett Set for Tokyo Film Fest Showcase of Refugee-Led Shorts
Cate Blanchett will appear at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival to introduce five short films supported by the Displacement Film Fund, which she co-founded. The fund, managed with IFFR's Hubert Bals Fund and backed by UNHCR and other partners, supports filmmakers who are displaced or tell stories of displacement. The Displacement Film Fund, co-founded by Blanchett, pairs with IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund as managing partner, with UNHCR as strategic partner. Backers include Uniqlo as a founding partner, plus Amahoro Coalition, Master Mind, the Tamer Family Foundation, and Droom en Daad. A second edition was confirmed at IFFR 2026, with the SP Lohia Foundation joining as a major partner.
The five shorts, supported by this initiative, will mark their Japanese premieres at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival.
