Amex Debuts Dutch-Inspired Centurion Lounge at Schiphol Airport
American Express will open its first Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on September 17, located between concourses E and F. The 6,000-square-foot space features a palette inspired by Amsterdam's canals and includes a dedicated coffee bar and various seating options. It is the 33rd Centurion Lounge globally and follows standard Amex lounge access rules.
The lounge occupies a second-level position between concourses E and F, opening daily from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. At 6,000 square feet, it ranks among the smaller Centurion locations, comparable to the London outpost, and lacks some amenities found in larger spaces. A phone nook offers semi-private calling space rather than a fully enclosed room.
Design elements reference Dutch culture throughout, with local artwork accompanied by scannable QR codes providing artist information. The Blue Roast Coffee Bar marks the fourth Centurion Lounge to feature a dedicated barista station, serving Netherlands-sourced coffee alongside a buffet highlighting regional dishes like bitterballen. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light, though views are limited.
This opening could reshape the premium airport experience at one of Europe's busiest hubs, particularly for frequent travelers holding eligible Amex cards. It may pressure competing lounge networks and airlines to enhance their own offerings at Schiphol. Casual travelers without access could see increased crowding in standard lounges as premium passengers shift to the new space, potentially widening the gap between tiers of air travel comfort.
