Science Corp CEO to pitch brain-computer interfaces as screen replacement at Disrupt
Science Corp CEO Max Hodak will present a vision for screen-free interfaces at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026. His company's PRIMA implant has already restored eyesight in patients with severe vision loss. Hodak, who co-founded Neuralink, argues that brain-computer interactions will define the next era of technology.
Hodak’s technical foundation began with early programming at age six, followed by biomedical engineering studies at Duke and work in Miguel Nicolelis’ brain-computer interface lab. He later co-founded Transcriptic, a robotic cloud laboratory, before co-founding Neuralink in 2016 and serving as its first president. He launched Science Corporation in 2021 to focus on neural engineering for vision, cognition, and mobility.
The company’s PRIMA implant uses camera-equipped glasses to transmit images to a retinal chip, successfully restoring sight in patients with severe vision loss. Science Corp has raised $230 million in Series C funding at a $1.5 billion valuation. Hodak envisions broader applications, including healing damaged brain cells, predicting seizures, and potentially treating Parkinson’s disease. His Disrupt session will occur at Moscone West, October 13-15, amid the event’s focus on sustainable AI companies.
Brain-computer interfaces like PRIMA could fundamentally shift how humans interact with technology, potentially replacing screens for many daily tasks. This may dramatically improve quality of life for people with vision loss or mobility impairments, offering new independence. However, widespread adoption could raise concerns about data privacy, cognitive inequality, and the psychological effects of constant neural connectivity. Society may need to weigh these benefits against ethical questions about access and consent, particularly as such devices become more integrated into everyday work and communication.
