Spain coach De la Fuente signs extension through 2032
Luis de la Fuente has agreed a new contract with Spain that runs until 2032, extending his tenure beyond the previous 2028 expiry. The 65-year-old led Spain to Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup title, and will now oversee the 2030 World Cup on home soil. Spain's federation president confirmed the deal, praising de la Fuente's results and popularity.
De la Fuente took over from Luis Enrique in December 2022 after Spain's last-16 exit at the Qatar World Cup. Since then, his side has lost only twice in 41 competitive matches, collecting the 2022-23 Nations League, Euro 2024, and the 2026 World Cup, while finishing runners-up to Portugal in the 2024-25 Nations League.
Prior to the senior role, de la Fuente spent nine years with Spain's youth teams, winning a U19 European title in 2015, a U21 crown in 2019, and Olympic silver in 2021. His new deal covers the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted with Portugal and Morocco, with centenary matches also in South America. Spain next face England at Wembley on 26 September.
