Pinterest introduces AI-powered 'Restyle' to visualize home decor changes in user photos

Pinterest is testing a new AI feature called Restyle that lets users upload photos of their rooms and visualize changes like furniture, lighting, and decor. The feature, powered by Pinterest Intelligence using Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and open-source models, will be available in beta in the U.S. and Canada. Users can prompt the AI to add or remove items, change styles, and even incorporate products from their saved pins, potentially boosting shopping engagement.
The Restyle feature builds on Pinterest's broader investment in AI infrastructure, combining Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Dynamo software with open-source models and proprietary technology. This foundation also powers the Pinterest Assistant, which handles visual search requests and converts user activity into signals for AI-driven discovery and shopping recommendations.
Restyle is currently available as an early preview, with a wider rollout planned for next month. The feature was first showcased at Pinterest's annual Presents event, which also introduced new visual search ads and app promotion tools for advertisers. By allowing users to visualize saved items in their own spaces, Pinterest aims to strengthen the connection between inspiration and purchase.
This feature could shift how consumers approach home decor decisions, making it easier to evaluate products before buying and potentially reducing returns. Retailers may benefit from higher conversion rates as users see saved items in context, but there is also a risk that AI-generated visualizations could create unrealistic expectations about how products will look in real spaces.
