Apple's iOS 27 ships with AI-driven Siri and over 120 security fixes
Apple has officially released iOS 27 for iPhones, introducing a beta version of Siri AI that can handle conversational queries and device control. The update also includes more than 120 security patches, alongside new photo editing tools, Liquid Glass customization, and improved Screen Time features. Users who remain on iOS 26 receive a separate 26.7 update with additional fixes.
The update arrives after months of beta testing, positioning Siri AI as the centerpiece feature. Unlike standalone chatbots, this assistant is embedded in the operating system, allowing it to control apps and settings directly. The beta currently supports English only, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish expected in October. Users can opt in through the Settings menu under Siri.
For those unable or unwilling to upgrade, Apple simultaneously released iOS 26.7, iPadOS 26.7, and macOS 26.7, patching nearly 80 vulnerabilities while adding new emoji, Apple Music features, and AirPods Max 2 support. However, several older devices are excluded from version 27, including the iPhone X, XR, and XS series, along with certain iPads and Macs from 2019-2020.
This release could significantly reshape how everyday users interact with their devices, as Siri AI's system-level integration may reduce reliance on third-party assistants.
