Anand arrives at Disney after leading Character.AI, a generative AI chatbot startup, where he served as CEO. The appointment, made by Disney chief Josh D’Amaro, marks the first time the company has created a chief technology officer role, signaling a push to modernize its operations.
The hire carries notable history: roughly a year prior, Disney sent Character.AI a cease-and-desist letter alleging "blatant infringing" of its copyrights, demanding removal of Disney characters from the platform. Character.AI complied with that request, and Anand now steps into a leadership position at the very company that challenged his former employer.
