Swift to Receive New MTV VMA Award for Directorial Vision
CBS and MTV announced that Taylor Swift will be the first recipient of the Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, airing Sept. 27 from Los Angeles' Peacock Theater. The award recognizes musicians whose behind-the-camera work has expanded music video storytelling and developed a distinct directorial voice. Swift, a four-time VMA winner for best direction, has directed videos including "The Man" and the short film "All Too Well."
Swift's directorial résumé spans more than a decade of music videos, with her solo debut arriving in 2020 for "The Man," which earned her the first of four best direction Moon Persons. Her 2021 short film "All Too Well" expanded the format further, winning video of the year, best longform video, and best direction at the 2022 ceremony. She has since directed clips for "Bejeweled," "Lavender Haze," "Karma," and "I Can See You," among others.
This year's ceremony finds Swift competing with 11 nominations, trailing only Madonna's 13. Her current work "The Fate of Ophelia" is recognized across seven craft categories, while "Opalite" earns a best direction nod. Nirvana is set to receive the Video Vanguard Award, with Snoop Dogg hosting the Sept. 27 broadcast from Los Angeles' Peacock Theater.
