The sixth cohort arrives amid a leadership transition, with acting director Benjamin Gaddy steering the program following Ashley Grosh's move to WovenEarth Ventures. The selection maintains the initiative's appetite for high-risk bets, including Borealis Fusion's proton-boron approach, which could slash energy costs if the technical hurdles around ignition temperatures are overcome.
Several picks target infrastructure gaps, notably hydrogen transport, where ammonia-based carriers from AmyHyTech and Ammovolt could address a domestic pipeline that currently has nearly zero installed capacity. The class also signals a strategic pivot toward climate adaptation, reflecting acknowledgment that decarbonization is progressing more slowly than originally projected.
This cohort could influence how society manages the projected threefold surge in electricity demand driven by electrification and data center growth.
